After going through the previous year undefeated, albeit within a modified format, there were high hopes for this season’s U14 Sunshine Coast side, and staying at the prestigious ‘TSS’ on the Gold Coast the boys were in for a treat. The biggest challenge the boys were faced within the lead up to the week is working out what ‘names’ would be allocated to B1 (Ben Flieter – Coach) & B2 (Ben Shaw – Assistant)!
After a narrow loss on a ‘challenging’ deck against MSW, the boys bounced back with three strong victories against SEQ, DDSWQ & the Gold Coast earning the right spot in the final against the highly fancied Brisbane North side. Whilst they fought bravely throughout the day the Coast boys were outplayed by the Brisbane North and finished an admirable Runners Up for the U14’s Carnival.
Lead well by Malakai Pearce as skipper, Nat Wallden was a stand out with the bat scoring almost 150 runs for the week and right arm quick Steve Galea finished with 9 wickets for the week to top the wicket-takers. Such was the strength of our U14 Sunshine Coast side a total of 8 out of a possible 12 players were selected in the Coastal Burners (SC & WB combined) side to compete at the U14 Qld Cricket State Championships. Great work lads!
