Our 1st Grade Scorchers Women continue to do SCCA proud and on Saturday night pulled off a win for the ages In the Katherine Raymont Shield T20 final against Western Suburbs at Ian Healy Oval. The result all came down to the last ball with the excitement starting on the very first ball of the match when Taylor Stumer ran out the West’s Captain, Annie Wikman with a direct hit.
The Scorchers women put on a fielding and bowling master class with Ruby Orchard and Maddie Duncan leading the way; Lucy Hamilton and Mikayla Wrigley were also involved in run outs and key catches to restrict Wests to 9/89.
Batting for the Scorchers was hard work with ex-Australian fast bowler Holly Ferling producing an opening spell of a champion. Mikayla Wrigley, Captain Emma McCord, and Charlotte Lutz were able to consolidate the innings with three runs required from the last two balls. The tension built and hearts were racing when a short run was recorded and two runs required off the last ball. Maddie Duncan was not daunted by the Wests close in fielders and proceeded to hit the two winning runs over their heads and win the game. Charlotte Lutz was named player of the final
Captain Emma McCord paid tribute to the efforts of her team and extended congratulations to the Wests team for the fantastic game acknowledging in her usual humble manner, that the match could have just as easily been won by Wests. Great work by the Scorchers Coach Lawrence Murphy, support personnel, and thanks to all the Sunshine Coast supporters who traveled to watch a thrilling final.
