QJC U13 Daily Wrap

DAY 1

Here’s the U13s wrap for the day…

It was a tough day out for the boys today, losing heavily to a strong bears side. We won the toss and elected to bat. Aiden Thompson was a massive positive at the start of the innings, and was the star performer for the day, hitting an elegant 47 off 45 balls with 8 boundaries. Apart from Aiden’s innings not much went to plan for the lads with bat as we a couple of cheap wickets and run outs saw us bowled out for 100 in 32 overs. From there it was tough going for the boys , with the bears batting line up passing our score reasonably quickly and continuing on to score 5/355. A couple of positives from the bowling innings were Cody Emerson and Harvey Pennay bowling really well up the top for not much reward and Jackson Jennings taking two great catches in the covers.

DAY 2

Here’s the U13s day 2 wrap…

Going into our game against the Gold Coast we lost the toss and we’re sent into bat on a slightly tricky wicket. After being the Aiden Thompson and Jasper Reeves got us off to a flyer taking 15 from the first over. Unfortunately for us it was all down hill from there as the Gold Coast bowlers were on fire. Our top and middle order collapsed under some very good quick bowling and we found ourselves 9-43 and then 10-62 soon after. Being 10 wickets down we had our opening bowlers, for the day Cody Emerson and Harvey Pennay, at the crease. These two batted beautifully together, building a partnership of 41 runs for the 11th wicket. This great display from these two took our total to a somewhat defendable 103 off 38.4 overs. A special shout-out goes to Cody who finished on 33* off 69 balls.

Pumped after their partnership Harvey and Cody opened the bowling and both bowled very well for no luck. 1st and 2nd change bowlers Hudson Barrett and Riley Jarrett also bowled well for no luck and this seemed to be a theme throughout the entire innings. The bois fought hard and tied the batters down but the gold coast eventually reached the total after 34 overs. From there the opposition team swung hard with the pressure off them and finished 3-214 off their 50 overs. A special shout-out for the bowling innings goes to Eli Pearce who bowled his 10 overs very well, without luck, for figures of 0-34 and also Harvey Pennay who bowled excellently for 1-20 off 8.

DAY 3

Here’s the U13s day 3 wrap…

Losing the toss our U13 boys were sent into the field on day 3 of their carnival against Wide Bay. On a nippy but flat wicket Harvey Pennay and Hudson Barrett took the new ball and picked up 2 early wickets to have to the Wide Bay side 2-8 after the first 4 overs. In need of a rebuild Wide Bay consolidated and took themselves to a total of 93 before losing their next. However, in the process our boys toiled, working hard, bowling well and staying up in the field. Through the middle Eli Pearce picked up the handy figures of 0-20 with 3 maidens after he bowled his 10 overs straight. The boys restricted the batters well keeping them to just 4-113 after 37 overs. Although from here the Wide Bay big hitters cut loose getting themselves to a competitive target of 6-219. Well done to Hudson Barrett who opened the bowling and bowled at the death picking up figures of 3-41 off his 8.

Heading out to open the batting was Riley Jarrett and Aiden Thompson, who started well in an effort to chase a gettable 219. Both the openers got starts of 23 before Harry and Eli Baker also came went at 3 and 4. Now, in comes Cody Emerson batting at 5. Cody worked hard early, got himself in, and capitalised on his scoring shots. He formed great partnerships with Euan Gibson and Jackson Jennings to get us in the box seat at 6-174. Unfortunately however, the boys crumbled from here getting bowled out for 203, with Cody finishing on an outstanding 79* off 104 balls. A proud performance from the boys and an excellent knock from Cody leaves the us absolutely motivated to finish the tournament with some wins!

DAY 4

Here’s the U13s day 4 wrap…

The boys won the toss today and sent the opposition in to bat on a crumbly, yet hard wicket. With the darling downs openers getting off to a flyer of 0-40 within the first 4 overs our lads brought it back nicely. Harry Brennan came on early with his leg spin and managed to pick up 2 crucial wickets, bowling an impressive spell with figures of 2-38 off 10. Eli Pearce was once again a star bowling his 10 straight through the middle and restricting the batters to 0-23 in his overs. Malcolm Daykin was also a highlight picking up his first wicket of the tournament to a great catch by Harvey Pennay. By the end of the innings the DD lads finished 6-219, with Aiden Thompson and Euan Gibson bowling well at the death, Euan picking up 2 wickets in the process.

Going into our batting innings we thought chasing 219 was very achievable, unfortunately the boys could never get going or score freely throughout the innings with some great fielding and bowling by the DD boys. Riley Jarrett and Eli Pearce opened up the batting with Riley losing his wicket early to a ball that stayed low. From there it was tough going Cody Emerson and Aiden Thompson built a promising partnership before their wickets fell in the middle of the innings, Aiden going for 12 and Cody for 24. Finishing off the total looking too far out of reach, but the boys fought well. Notably, Harvey Pennay and Harry Brennan finished on not out scores of 14* and 23* respectively. The lads finished 8-135, but were not disheartened after the match having batted the 50 overs for the first time in the tournament.

DAY 5

Here’s the U13s day 5 wrap…

On our final day of the tournament, the boys were sent in to bowl, by the opposition. Hudson Barrett and Harvey Pennay opened the bowling and bowled beautifully first up, restricting the SEQ batters well in the first 8 overs. From there, the opposition let loose a little, but not without Euan Gibson picking up 2 valuable wickets in the process. Harry Brennan was also able to pick up a pole in his spell. The lads worked hard for the remainder of the innings with SEQ restricted to 10-192 off their 40 overs. Notably Harvey and Hudson both bowled well at the death picking up figures of 2-29 off 8 and 2-35 off 8 respectively.

In the batting innings the boys got off to a shaky start losing 3 quick wickets to be 3-30 after the first 10. Aiden Thompson looked good for his 17 off 29 but was dismissed. Riley Jarrett and Jackson Jennings then looked to steady the ship build a nice partnership before they were both dismissed. Riley run out for 10 and Jacko out for 22. This all before another epic knock from Cody Emerson. He came in at 5-65 and through his efforts, and a few of the other lads chipping in, we almost chased the total. We finished on 163 and Cody ended his innings on 56 off 65 when he smoked one to square leg.

All in all, despite the losses, the boys had a fantastic week and fought hard all the way through. They were the most spirited team in the whole comp and should hold their heads extremely high.

A special shout-out to Cody Emerson for making the QLD merit team for the tournament, and finishing the comps second highest run scorer!
