5 Tips for Preparing for Rep Trials this Season

The cricket season is upon us, and rep trials are just around the corner. Understanding what is vital before heading into these rep trials and carnivals is essential. Here are some tips for your upcoming rep cricket trials.

Focus on the basics

When preparing for rep trials, be sure to revisit the basics of building a strong player.

Strength and conditioning

Strength and conditioning are essential for all players. The stronger and faster you are the better player you’ll become.

Nutrition

Fuelling your body with the right nutrients will help it function at its peak performance. Don’t forget to keep up the fluids and remain hydrated.

Polish your skills

Attending a clinic is the perfect way to dust off the cobwebs and focus on preparing for rep season. Sunshine Coast Cricket is running a spring clinic from the 19th of September focusing on competition readiness.

Play your Natural Game / Keep your mindset in check

Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Going into rep trials, many players assume they need to be the most powerful hitter, fastest bowler, and biggest turner. Don’t go away from your natural game. Take the time to identify your strengths and demonstrate them to the selectors. You can do this by asking a mentor or coach to help you determine your best attributes.

Remember it takes all types of players to make up a winning team so at the trials don’t get distracted by what others are doing. Focus on your own performance and stick to what is natural!

Set your goals

Set your personal goals for the season and share them with your coaches, family and teammates. If you are attending a Sunshine Coast Cricket clinic be sure to share your goals with the coaches so they can help you reach your specific cricket goals.

Have fun

While your passion for cricket is strong and competition is fierce. It’s important to remember cricket is a game that’s meant to be fun. So make sure to keep a smile on your face and, most importantly enjoy yourself!
